Perhaps you've attended other types of childbirth classes offered by your hospital or care provider, but you're looking for something that equips you not only with information, but with practical skills and tools that you can apply to both childbirth and parenting.

Maybe you understand what's going to happen to your body during labor and childbirth, but you've heard that this MIND OVER MATTER thing is really where it's at.

Developed by Nancy Bardacke, CNM, who authored the book Mindful Birthing, and based on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program that has helped thousands of patients in hospitals since 1979 overcome health challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic pain, etc., this course will equip you with the tools, practices, and resources to feel truly prepared for the journey of childbirth and parenting.

When you sign up for a Minfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting Class, we meet once a week for 9 weeks and cover the basic principles of preparing the body and mind for childbirth with mindfulness practices you can apply to your daily life.

While we may not know how our labor or birth will unfold on our baby’s birthday, this class gives us the skills to respond to every step of the journey with grace and calm, rather than reacting with stress and anxiety. 

We cover topics such as:

-      inner preparation for childbirth; 

-      the 9 aspects of mindfulness and how they apply to childbirth and parenting; 

-      understanding pain and fear in childbirth; 

-      responding vs. reacting; 

-      yoga for childbirth;

-      mindfulness meditation;

-      managing your thoughts so they serve you rather than enslave you

-      basic childbirth course topics, such as how labor progresses & what’s happening in your body during childbirth,

-      supportive comfort techniques and laboring positions,

-      beneficial pushing positions and breathing techniques,

-      typical hospital procedures & informed decision making,

-      newborn needs and breastfeeding.

mindfulness for childbirth and parenting class options


In person

This class is held 4 times per year. We meet every Saturday for 9-weeks, from 10:30 am to 12 noon at 20 Dowsett Avenue in Honolulu HI 96817. This in-person setting forges a strong bond between participants as class sizes are small and (5-8 couples max.). If you are someone who does better learning in that ‘brick-and-mortar’ setting, this is for you.

Investment: $395 per couple for 9-week class.

virtual class experience

This class meets once a week for 9-weeks over the online conferencing platform Zoom.  Each week I email you a live link to the classroom, where we meet and hold class.  We are together in real time, but still in the comfort of our own homes!  You don’t have to live on Oahu to take this class…we can meet from anywhere.  This class is held on an on-demand basis, and we agree on a day and time to meet based on what works for your schedule!

Investment: $350 per couple for the 9-week class
